As we age, wrinkles start to form on the forehead and eyebrows begin to sag and hood the upper eyelids, making us look more tired. A brow lift places the eyebrows in a more alert and youthful position, making it a popular cosmetic surgery. Here are five things to know about a brow lift:
- A brow lift is also known as a forehead lift. This cosmetic surgery reduces the wrinkles that develop across the forehead and on the bridge of the nose between the eyes. It improves frown lines, also known as “11 lines,†which are the vertical creases between the eyebrows.
- There is more than one way to perform a brow lift. A coronal incision involves making an incision from ear to ear across the top of the head at the anterior hairline, but the most common method is an endoscopic brow lift. This is a procedure where the surgeon creates 2-3 small incisions in the skin in the hairline and inserts a long tube with a camera attached, called an endoscope, through the incisions. The endoscope allows the surgeon to reach the surgical site with microsurgical tools to tighten and lift the tissues and muscles of the face. The small incisions are then closed with sutures or skin adhesives, and resulting scars are hidden within the hair.
- A brow lift can be performed with other procedures. This includes upper and lower eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, and skin resurfacing techniques.
- Results are immediately visible. It will take a few weeks for swelling and bruising to subside and incision lines to begin to fade, continuing to reveal your results. The final results of the brow lift surgery will appear over a few months.
- Sun protection will become even more important. You’ll want to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays to maintain your results and minimize further sun damage.
